I have found my new place to go, I love Hawaii! From starting my trip in Vancouver B.C. and finishing in Waikiki, Hawaii it was all amazing. Everything worked out. No real plans except for one day in which I had a plan, didn’t do it but I did have one. The day after my relaxing day at the beach, I was supposed to take a surfing lesson but when I woke up after my relaxing day I think I was too burnt out from hanging on the beach. Instead of getting up around 6:30/7:00 I slept in to 9:00 and ended up hiking from the hotel to Diamondhead. Wow what a view and it only cost a buck. Go to my gallery and see a couple of pictures. I’m not into taking loads of pictures while traveling. It’s hard to show people what you really see in a picture, I think it is better to see it for yourself. For instance if you see mountains or beaches, just google the area and see what good pictures the pros have. It is nice to have pictures of the people you get to meet that way in a few years from now I can look at them again and wonder how those people are doing and maybe even email them. The hotel I stayed at gave me a better deal than what I was first quoted. I ended up getting it for $160.00 for two night taxes and all and they quoted me $89.00 a night plus taxes. Maybe because I gave them my TravelCheapWithPete.com card Sand Villa Hotel, thanks guys. People that I have met around the world always say to me, that I am a lucky guy and I will admit that I am very fortunate that I can travel the way I do. But anyone can do the same thing if that’s what they really want. I was talking to a guy on a bench in Waikiki the other day and it sounded to me that he wants to travel just like most people do. He is about 70 and still running the family farm in Alberta. I told him to sell it and enjoy life and he said that he wants to keep the farm for the family. The thing is that they have nothing to do with the farm right now. I think if we were to ever actually ask our children what they thought about us enjoying life until we die or sitting on our asses or maybe even still working until we die that they would tell us to go and enjoy! So that is why I have come into your life to try and share and help with my experiences TravelCheapWithPete.com This way you can get away and enjoy life for cheap and still have money for you and your children later. Everyone needs a vacation away from work and the routines of life. Like they say (JUST DO IT) and just ask your children if they want the farm or the business that you built. Life is not all about work it’s about living it too. I did not go to Costa Rica today as I had posted on Monday. I could have gone for $199.00 plus tax. One of the reasons is that it is back to being warm in Calgary on the plus side of zero unlike last week when I heard it was minus -30 while I was enjoying Hawaii. Another tip I have is get an unlocked phone. I used AT&T in Hawaii and got 250 minutes for only $10.00 to call Canada. If someone called or texted me it would cost me 10 to 25 cents even if it was local. I paid an addition $10.00 for that service plus got a sim card with that and that paid for any other charges that would accrue like local calls sending or receiving and texting. Travelling food tip time, these are some things that I like to have while on my journeys. I really like fruit and veggies and peanut butter and as the Americans say (jelly) I say jam sandwiches because they are easy to put together and you can eat it anywhere like on a bus, plane, boat or even a train. Cheers, till next trip, www.TravelCheapWithPete.com Back home this morning at 5:30 am from Hawaii. I think this is going to be my new number one destination as I still have to go back and see much more and I want to take up Kite surfing (skiing). That looks like so much fun flying in the air and on to the water. Met the Mayor of Honolulu yesterday his name is Peter Carliste. I came back home to look at a couple of properties and get a bit of work done at the office. I will write more about Hawaii sometime this week. Again I hate when work gets in the way. I am going to put it out there again for people to consider. I would like to put together a group of people (see future travel plans) to all meet in Cuba in say the last week of February or the first week of March. So far I have three guys that want to go and I think we all can get our own rooms for no extra charge. No matter where in the world you live I will find you the best deal possible. Cuba is a totally different world and we will meet the locals in the safest place in the world and I’m sure you will love it. I saw on the internet today, Costa Rica for $199.00 + taxes leaving Thursday. Truly pondering the idea as that is pretty hard to pass up. Love Maui too! Cheap transportation here also as I can get a day pass for the bus for $2.00 a day and you can see most of the island. I brought my daughters here about 8 years ago and stayed at the same place, Banana Bungalow Hostel after my ex and I spilt up. Funny thing is I saw a guy checking in the same time as I did. He was moving here from Florida and with the same story that I had a few years ago. He split with his girl and now wants to move here to start a new life. Anyways this was his first night ever in a hostel as he was always a five star kind of guy. Not anymore, he now loves this hostel life where you meet so many people from all over the world in the common area or in the kitchen while making dinner. His name is Leonardo and he had a rent a car and he wanted to go to see Hana, so I invited myself to go with him. That’s the way it is in hostels or if you know me I’m not afraid to ask anyone anything. We had a great time and it was as if we had known each other for years, great laughs too. It goes to show that we are all the same in this world.
I want to write about hostels. Most people that have never stayed at one seem to knock them down and they have know idea what they are missing. The deals you get for a place to stay plus at this hostel we even get free tours everyday. You can even get your own private room at a lower cost than at a hotel and get a chance to meet so many people from around the world. I think about 80% of us travel alone and the other 20% are friends, families or couples travelling together. I think everyone on this Island knows about this hostel (Banana Bungalow) because anywhere on the Island I went I would tell the locals that I am staying here and they would smile. I finally asked a guy why does everyone smile when I say I'm staying there and he said well because of all the hot girls that stay there. I told him that most of them are way to young for me (o.k. there are a few older girls my age 40 lol. too). Have I mentioned yet that there are also mixed rooms so they try and put two guys and two girls in each room. Hana is a very beautiful place and I went around the whole island in about nine hours. I am headed back to Waikiki and am going to spend my last two nights in a hotel but I am still going to hang out at the hostels for the great deals. Of course hanging out and meeting the new people coming through will be fun as well. Arrived back in Waikiki, Homolulu yesterday, I rented a scooter today without a helmet, please don't tell my daughter Tiffany that I road around without a hemet, man, again what a beauitful place, I will be back some day soon to see all the Islands, love this place. I am going to try and take it easy on the beach for the next couple of days, before I go back home and yes I have to go home this time, hate when work gets in the way. Loving Life, Cheers All, Pete Wow! What a beautiful place and they even speak English here. So much to see and explore and I am staying in Waikiki Honolulu, the Island of Oahu. The past couple of days I have been exploring the whole island and there is cheap transportation. I bought a ticket in downtown Honolulu and took the bus to the north west where I stopped at Pupukea which is a beach that is famous for big wave surfing. From there I hopped on the bus with my transfer to Kawela Bay (Turtle Bay Resort) it’s the end of the line for the north west. I came back on the north east line with a total cost of $5.00 for the day. I should have brought my day bag with me because I saw so many places I wanted to stay at along the way. So many times when I am traveling I end up having two hostels in the same night. It only costs around $25.00 a night or $50.00 for two places so it could be worse. I could be staying at the Hyatt Regency whichis one block behind me for $264.00 a night, but they are on the beach and all. Just booked Maui for $128.00 return leaving on Friday. Waikiki is very nice but to busy for me.
One of the main reasons why I want to go to Maui is because I want to check out the Unity Church , My friend Carol Carnes from the center of Spiritual living in Calgary recommended it to me. I have heard that Wayne Dyer shows up there. I have been to Maui before lots to see and do, don’t think I am going to make it to the big Island this trip but I know some day I will return to Hawaii. I went to at&t today and picked up a free sim card for my phone the problem is it is pay as you go. My # is 1-808-679-9941 if you call or text anything to do with work I will not return your call or text. |
