![]() Good long weekend.. Took the red eye to Cancun Friday night and arrived around 6:30 AM. Saturday morning. I was going through immigration and hit the red light for the first time in about 15 to 18 trips in the past 10 years going to Mexico. Their system is green light, go through enjoy your holiday and if you hit a red light they pull you in and interrogate you. I was laughing because I said to the girl that I have been coming here for 10 years and I was always wondering what happens if I got a red light. She asked me to unzip my bag, I said no problem, I am not carrying a speedo (just kidding I did not say that). I can hear my two daughters Tiffany and Crystal now,” You’re gross dad!” She had a quick look and a laugh at my stupid jokes and told me to enjoy my holiday. A new lesson I learnt is that the bus going to Cancun does not start until 8 a.m. so I waited for an hour talking with a young lady from Saskatchewan, that lives in Mexico running a business in the winters down there. Then I got to the hotel in Cancun around 9 a.m. and they didn’t have a room ready for me, so they allowed me to store my bag at the hotel and gave me a towel and said just hang out at the beach until around one. Big mistake! I got into a book in the sun and then fell asleep, man I got sooo burnt. Got my room around one and headed to the supermarket because I had a kitchenette in the room, yes for $38 USD a night in the hotel zone (great deal). I still had three full days there and saw a couple of my Mexican friends and still made it to Isla Mujeres and Playa Del Carmen. Some people think I am rich because I travel so much. I’m going to say, not at all and I am far from being poor too. I do sometimes stay at 5 star resorts, but I know when and where the good deals are on, for instance I see people paying way too much during high season Christmas/ Spring Break. I can see why they go on one holiday a year. I will spend about the same as they do on about 3 to 4 holidays a year and most will be in a 3 to 4 star resort, hotel or hostels but I prefer them over a 5 star because then I appreciate my home and my own bed even more when I get home.
